Movies at the Market; Limerick’s best loved outdoor film screening series is back this summer with some of your favourite big-screen classics. Nestled away under the Milk Market’s big top, movie-goers can expect world-class artisan food to nibble on while they enjoy the films, hot and cold beverages including wine will also be available.

Following on from the success of last year’s screenings, the much anticipated programme for 2014 is now announced; ‘Grease’ will be the first screening, followed by cult classic ‘Withnail and I’ and the original ‘Footloose’.

Grease: Friday 11th July

Limerick movie-goers better shape up their coifs and don their tightest leggings as we take the nostalgia filled trip to Rydell High. Join good girl Sandy and bad boy Danny as they navigate teenage love against the backdrop of pep-rallys, drag- races and drive- in movies. Featuring hits such as ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ and ‘You’re the One that I Want’, this screening promises to have you jiving in your seat by the end of the night. Fancy dress is encouraged!

Withnail And I: Saturday 12th July

withnail1The offbeat cult hit ‘Withnail and I’ screens at this summer’s Movies at the Market. The year is 1969 and two unemployed actor friends take a trip to the countryside in search of a much needed break from their chaotic lifestyle. Unfortunately things go from bad to worse in the country as Withnail (Richard E. Grant) and “I”(Paul McGann)’s friendship begins to dwindle, mirroring the decline of the hippie era. Come and have a glass of the “finest wine available to humanity” at this hilarious black comedy, and indulge in the famous drink- along game at your own risk!

Footloose: Friday 18th July

footlooseIn the lively musical ‘Footloose’, city kid Ren(Kevin Bacon)faces culture shock when his family move from a big city to an ultra-conservative Midwestern town. Once there, he ends up leading the repressed teenagers into a rebellion against the town fathers, who have outlawed rock music and dancing. This up-beat classic also features some fantastic dance scenes and a wonderful sountrack, jam packed with 80’s hits such as Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Holding Out For A Hero’, Denise Williams’s ‘Lets Hear It For The Boy’ and many more.

Tickets for the screenings are available online, just go to the Milkmarket home page – www.milkmarketlimerick.ie – and you will be directed to the ticket sales page.

Tickets are also for sale at Harpers Café at the Milk Market.
Admission to all films costs €8 for one ticket or €25 for four tickets.
Screenings begin at 10.15 p.m. – the doors will open at 9.30pm each night, audience members are advised to arrive early as free seating is in operation and seats cannot be pre-booked.
Early booking is strongly advised! Our maximum capacity is 500 people, and regretfully we cannot admit any extras on the night if we sell out.
